Update re Redwood Romps! Services

The following is an excerpt from a message that went out to weekly clientsstrike a pose

April 22, 2020

Good morning.

In an effort to continue to be proactive and supportive during the COVID-19 pandemic, Redwood Romps! is continuing to reach out privately to all weekly clients regarding the well-being of their pets and families.

We are under a Statewide Shelter-in-Place order through May 3rd, and at this point it is my understanding that there will be some minor adjustments to the restrictions on May 4th, including some changes regarding service providers that travel to private properties.

Currently, service is available to Redwood Romps! clients who are classified as Essential Workers, still working away from home, with no one at home who is able to provide routine/necessary care for their dogs.

However, in anticipation of a gradual loosening of restrictions in the coming months,Redwood Romps! is ready to adjust protocols and procedures in order to serve both current clients and potential new clients. Most discussions will be held privately but I believe it is important for me to share some of the protocols that are in place for service at this time.

If your overall home/work/health situation has changed and the well-being or safety of your pets or family are being impacted, Redwood Romps! may be able to safely serve your household.

At this time, Redwood Romps! is in direct communication with local law enforcement regarding all services. As you can imagine this is a challenge for me personally as I place a high value on client privacy. I have never had any explicit need to know what my clients do for a living nor to require any special documentation for third parties. But this is an extraordinary situation.

I miss your pets and my normal work schedule. I understand that many companies are restructuring and laying off employees and your need for dog care might change temporarily or permanently. I also understand that your finances may change and that can affect your household budget. I continue to encourage open communication with me as we move forward through this. You are much more than a client or a “paycheck” to me. You are a community member and an animal lover and I am here to help you in whatever way I can.

These good-looking siblings will be celebrating their ninth birthday next month.

They share a mountaintop home in the Santa Cruz Mountains with two elderly cats and their humans enjoy both travel and at-home time with these gentle giants.

Spinoni Italiano are known to be very friendly and gentle with cats, and Stella and Pino adore small dogs. They are also emotionally sensitive. Pino was visibly disappointed when crew member Guapito retired from hiking duties, and Stella always greets little Martina with kisses.

They joined the Redwood Romps! family in August of 2016.

Happy Birthday, kiddos!

Athena weighs in at a svelte 100 pounds. Her buddy Max tops out at 110. These two enjoy California living to the fullest, nestled in the redwoods with their own swimming pool! (Well, ok the humans use the pool too.) You may notice that they have a more wolf-ish appearance than other German Shepherds you’ve seen. That’s a trait of Belgian shepherds. They joined the Redwood Romps! family in June of 2016.

Happy New Year!

As we enter a new year, I wish to extend my heartfelt, deepest gratitude to all the clients and critters that have joined the Redwood Romps! family.

It is an honor to provide care for your beloved furry family members.

Thank you for choosing Redwood Romps! and thank you for giving your companion animals everything they need for a happy, healthy life.

Memorial day is almost upon us…for pet sitters this means SUMMER is almost here and we will have lots of critters to take care of while their hardworking owners enjoy some R&R away from home. Redwood Romps! has cared for several sets of hens over the years. Most clients like to give away the eggs that are produced while they are gone.

Redwood Romps! would like to say THANK YOU to you and your “ladies” for this eggcellent gift!

Business is booming!

Redwood Romps! was started in July of 2012 to serve the San Lorenzo Valley. Within two months I had the great fortune to be hired by a very successful petsitting/doggy daycare/ dog boarding facility as both a subcontractor and a weekend employee. I could not have asked for a better “leg up”! I continue to build the independent Redwood Romps! client base through word-of-mouth and good old-fashioned footwork. I am grateful for every referral that comes my way, and when I give out my business card I make a point to say that if I can’t help you, I will try to find someone who can! Business grew exponentially during the summer of 2013, enough that I had to leave my part-time teaching job. Winter Holiday bookings were full by mid-October this year. I am finally finding time to catch my breath, upload some photos and hit up some of my clients for input for this site. Stay warm and watch this space!

In 1995, a seven-week old mixed breed puppy came unexpectedly into my life.               Her name was Sweetie, and while she was neither the most intelligent nor the most agile canine, she was wonderful nonetheless, and she opened doors to a whole new world of joy and adventure.

Sweetie in Oakland, 2000.

In my travels as an artist and teacher, I have lived in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Oaxaca City, Puerto Escondido, and Santa Cruz. Although the landscape, living conditions, joys and challenges differed from place to place, there has always been one constant element: a dog at my side. Or two.

In 2003 I traveled from Santa Cruz, California to Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca in a VW Van, camping most of the way. On the way down, I had one dog. On the way back, I had two!  Changuita was the runt of the litter, the one no one wanted. She was fearful, reactive, and covered in fleas when I adopted her. She became a part of our little family and with gentle guidance and proper care she evolved into a wonderful companion.

I feel very fortunate to live in Santa Cruz County and to have an opportunity to help the people and dogs here.  My reverence for the natural beauty of our area and my personal experience with dogs brings me to where I am today, offering services to my friends and neighbors in the San Lorenzo Valley.

I am getting my puppies in a row, so to speak. I expect to be offering dog-walking and  exercise sessions in Scotts Valley, Felton and Ben Lomond by mid-July 2012. Watch this space and feel free to direct any inquiries to redwoodromps@yahoo.com
